Tea is a beverage made by steeping dried leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant in hot water.

Tea originated in China over 5,000 years ago. It was first used as a medicinal drink before becoming a daily beverage. From China, tea spread to Japan, then to Europe and India through trade routes.

There are mainly four types of tea, based on how the leaves are processed:

  • Black Tea: Fully fermented, strong flavor (e.g., Assam, English Breakfast)

  • Green Tea: Not fermented, mild and healthy (e.g., Sencha, Matcha)

  • Oolong Tea: Partly fermented, between black and green tea

  • White Tea: Least processed, very delicate flavor
